1 January 2011
I’ve known for a while that I needed to do something about my weight and fitness. After we were married my previously active life became not so active for two main reasons. 1. Husband is not an active person and 2. We lived in Scotland. Scotland, whilst undeniably beautiful, did not (for me) have the sort of climate that encouraged this former Tropical North Queenslander to be outdoors and active. So, here I am, 14 years down the track, back in Australia (with Husband) and 16 kg heavier than I should be. Errm, make that at least 16kg, but who’s counting? At this stage anyway.
When we came back from New Zealand I had an urge to go back to gym. The one I’ve been paying $60 a month to belong to but haven’t actually been to since about April 2010. So since December 12 I’ve been every second day. Even over the holiday period. Woot – go me! I’ve also been tracking my food intake via Calorie King (free) and have been pretty happy with that. 25-31 December was off track food-wise but I kept up the exercise so I’m hopeful the damage won’t be too great.
I was surfing the Net one day looking for inspiration when I came across Lucy at Diminishing Lucy. From Lucy’s blogroll I found Jack at Jack Sh*t, Gettin’ Fit and from Jack’s Blogroll I then found Syl at Live, Smile, Run. This post and the look on Syl’s face (even though she’s very lovely!) in the accompanying photo absolutely and totally encapsulated how I feel at the moment. I am done! Over it! Had enough!
So I’ve signed up for Syl’s January Challenge. 5 solid workouts a week for a month and a minimum of 30 minutes per workout. Sounds good to me and so we begin in earnest!
