I decided to join Julie’s (Samurai Knitter) Sock Roulette because I very much knit in a vacuum. I personally don’t know anyone who knits and have very little interaction with people who knit. If I got off my behind and went to knit night every month it might be a different story but I’m still working on that.
After sending off an email asking to be included I sat around for a few days mulling over yarn and pattern, thinking that I had all the time in the world. Finally decided the important details and started, only to get about 5 cms up the foot and have second thoughts about the size. We’re all knitting a medium and this was closer to gigantic than medium. Right. So I thought that if I ripped back to the toe increases, resumed knitting where there were enough stitches for a small, then all should be okay.
Hmmmmm. Yet again I was 5 cm up the foot and now I don’t like the pattern anymore. So last night I pulled the plug, stopped knitting on that sock and went looking for another pattern.
Trouble is, I can’t decide. I want to use the same yarn because a. I like it and b. I have established gauge using it. I need a pattern which has about 60-64 stitches if I want to use the 2.5mm DPNs, although I’m also thinking that maybe I need to go down a needle size because the knitted fabric was possibly a little too soft and drapey. If I go down a needle size then I could go up in stitch count. Decisions decisions. If, maybe, possibly.
My head hurts. Especially when I remember that this sock has to go in the post at the end of next week. That may not seem a big deal to some but I knit rather weirdly and therefore rather slowly. Still I have the weekend and a few quiet nights ahead so all should be fine.
