One way or another I think I’ve lost a $50 iTunes Voucher purchased from Safeway last weekend. I’m not sure what I can do about this as it’s probably the same as cash money – you lose it then it’s well and truly gone. Still, no harm in asking at Safeway when I’m there this weekend and I might even send an email to iTunes Support if there is such a thing.

No harm in trying because $50 is $50.

Sunday Knitting Roundup

February 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The sock for Sock Roulette is finally going well with the foot almost completed. If I can get the heel turned tonight I’ll be more than happy although I suspect I’ll only get the gusset increases done. I went down a needle size to 2.25mm and used the pattern I liked which has 68 stitches. The sizing now seems right although to me it still looks big. As I’ve only been knitting socks for MIL (who has a long and very slender foot) I think my perception of sizes is a bit warped.

I did finish her Crazy Monkeys, knitted strangely enough out of Purple Trainwreck yarn bought from Julie (Samurai Knitter). They’re gorgeous, no other word for it, although it’s difficult to get a true representation of the colours.

The next pair of socks for MIL are based on Ryan Morrissey’s Dublin Bay pattern. The Grignasco Strong Print is knitting up nicely and the long colour repeats are inspiring me to knit quickly so that I get to next colour change. That’s really, really sad! Snicker. Needless to say they are currently on hold until the Roulette sock is done.

Sock Roulette

February 19, 2009 · 1 Comment

I decided to join Julie’s (Samurai Knitter) Sock Roulette because I very much knit in a vacuum. I personally don’t know anyone who knits and have very little interaction with people who knit. If I got off my behind and went to knit night every month it might be a different story but I’m still working on that.

After sending off an email asking to be included I sat around for a few days mulling over yarn and pattern, thinking that I had all the time in the world. Finally decided the important details and started, only to get about 5 cms up the foot and have second thoughts about the size. We’re all knitting a medium and this was closer to gigantic than medium. Right. So I thought that if I ripped back to the toe increases, resumed knitting where there were enough stitches for a small, then all should be okay.

Hmmmmm. Yet again I was 5 cm up the foot and now I don’t like the pattern anymore. So last night I pulled the plug, stopped knitting on that sock and went looking for another pattern.

Trouble is, I can’t decide. I want to use the same yarn because a. I like it and b. I have established gauge using it. I need a pattern which has about 60-64 stitches if I want to use the 2.5mm DPNs, although I’m also thinking that maybe I need to go down a needle size because the knitted fabric was possibly a little too soft and drapey. If I go down a needle size then I could go up in stitch count. Decisions decisions. If, maybe, possibly.

My head hurts. Especially when I remember that this sock has to go in the post at the end of next week. That may not seem a big deal to some but I knit rather weirdly and therefore rather slowly. Still I have the weekend and a few quiet nights ahead so all should be fine.

Hmmmm. Why start a blog? I’m not sure really. I just feel as if there are so many different parts to my life and so many thoughts in my head that I’d like to keep a track of them all in the same place.
